Earlyarts - Joined Up Future - Research Report

Earlyarts has recently published the results of its national research programme, aiming to develop a national picture of activity in, aspirations for, and barriers to using creative approaches to meet young children's needs. Our thanks go to everyone who took part in the survey or interviews - we are immensely grateful for all your contributions.

Ten of the key recommendations were published in Arts Professional in January 2009, along with a brief contextualisation of brain research, illustrating why creative practices are hugely important in our youngest children's lives. Read the article here.

The research recommendations were explored in detail by a national Focus Group made up of key strategic players in the arts, cultural, early education and workforce development sectors. The research report and work of the Focus Group will help to shape the future direction of Earlyarts as it expands from April 09 to become England's first national professional development network in this field.

Earlyarts' aim is to facilitate a learning network of partners, organisations and agencies across the UK who can share their practice, processes and research on the important role of creative practice in children's learning and development. A coalition of shared knowledge will enable us to strengthen our individual voices, broker new relationships, inspire our creative practices, and maximise our resources. Ultimately, it will help to raise the quality and opportunity within young children's lives in a more connected and meaningful way.
