Engage Cymru - How Red is Red? A Toolkit for Art in the Early Years
How Red is Red: A toolkit for Art in the Early Years will be launched at the Royal Cambrian Academy, Conwy, North Wales on 11 March 2010, by Morfudd Roberts, Head of Foundation Phase, Welsh Assembly Government.
The toolkit, written by Arts Education Consultant Fiona Godfrey, is aimed at early years practitioners, artists and galleries, and is packed with useful advice and ideas on planning and running visual arts projects 3 - 7 year-olds, both in the gallery and back at school.
“The gallery provided a wealth of stimulation and really enthused and motivated the children’s learning”, Foundation Phase Advisory Teacher.
All the ideas come directly from the experiences of teachers, artists and gallery educators involved in an action research programme that took place between 2005 and 2009. The action research showed that visiting galleries and seeing art works first-hand can provide children with inspirational starting points and references, stimulating learning across the curriculum.
All findings from the projects have been in line with Welsh Assembly Government recommendations and objectives.
“In this project we saw examples of everything that is promoted in the Foundation Phase and its whole philosophy” Early Years Advisor
