Theme: Creative Practices in Early Learning

For: Artists, early years practitioners, heads of centres, cultural managers, local authority advisors, early years professionals, arts or cultural organisations

9.15 Earlyarts Welcome… introduction to the day and Half Moon's role as London's Earlyarts pathfinder: Chris Elwell, Director, Half Moon

9.30 Exploring the importance of inspirational creative practice for early learning and development: Ruth Churchill Dower, Director Earlyarts (www.earlyarts.co.uk)

10.30 Practical Session 1

Developing literacy through spoken word/poetry - an exploration of Lyrical Laps, a video and spoken word project, which trained teachers and TAs in early years settings to develop schemes of work and deliver workshops. This session will include a visit to a video installation in the theatre featuring work created by the children from the schools/centres who participated in Lyrical Laps: Debra Baker, Associate Artist, Half Moon.

12.30 Networking LUNCH and tour of host organisation.

13.30 Practical Session 2

Developing a structured curriculum for pre-school and Foundation Stage using drama, play and paper - an exploration of the outreach programme that surrounded Half Moon's play for under 5s - Rip Fold Scrunch - that was rolled out to 22 children's centres in Tower Hamlets between January and May 2010: Liz Hague, Associate Artist, Half Moon

15.30 Sharing Experiences learning journeys and delivery plans, feedback and action planning
