- TAKEOFF 2004 is now open for bookings - Sunday 10th - Wednesday 13th October 2004 at Darlington Arts Centre. SOMETHING TO SING ABOUT! Creativity is all the rage. In a school near you children are learning to be creative - the only way they'll earn a good living in the future. Theatre, like all the arts, is where new ideas, new ways of seeing the world and even new words are celebrated. Live theatre in schools can stimulate all sorts of creative activity - if teachers and parents pick up and run with what excites children.
- The other great force for change today is the richness of cultural exchange. Takeoff 2004 brings you examples of theatre partnerships across Europe and the world. UK theatres for young people are increasingly popular around the world. Most of the talented companies presenting plays for us have toured many countries and enjoy sharing skills and ideas with professional colleagues overseas. Tselane's Song is the fruit of a collaboration linking Action Transport Theatre in Cheshire with Vulavulani Theatre in Soweto, South Africa. You are welcome to join in! Takeoff 2004 will host an important national conference about International touring and cultural exchange. UKTI (part of the Department for Trade and Industry) has funded a unique opportunity for overseas programmers to see a showcase of the latest UK productions for young people. We have planned events with ASSITEJ UK, ITC (the Independent Theatre Council) and others and are very grateful for financial support from UKTI. Please find attached the booking form and a list of all the shows and companies, fill in all relevant details and send back your form by post with a cheque (if applicable) to: CTC Theatre, Arts Centre, Vane Terrace, Darlington, DL3 7AX or fax to 01325 369404. If you have any queries please call 01325 352004 to speak to a member of the festival team or e-mail This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
- LEAParts Early Years Network presents an international one-day Seminar ‘COLOURS of WATER' exploring creative learning in Early Years education an international perspective. On Friday 15th October 2004 , 9.00am - 4.30pm at the Chelsfield Room, Royal Festival Hall, South Bank, London SE1. This special event will explore creative learning through the performing arts in Early Years education internationally. ‘Colours of Water' is a day of continuing professional development that has been built around the pioneering work being undertaken by three Early Years arts in education companies from Belgium, England and Italy: Theatre de la Guimbarde from Charleroi; The Little Angel Theatre from London; and La Baracca from Bologna.
LEAParts' intention in bringing together three companies from three cultures, all of whom are involved in developing the theory and practice of Arts in Education for Early Years' infants, is to illustrate the different ways of going about the challenge of working creatively within the Early Years sector. This will be an exceptional opportunity to observe the Early Years work currently being undertaken by three different, but linked, organisations in order to compare and contrast it with your own work. LEAParts believes that the international perspective brought by this Seminar will lead to a mutually beneficial exchange of ideas and possibilities between the cross-section of artists, educators, support workers, managers and policy-makers who enrol for this unique event.
The structure of the day will allow each participant to observe two performances with infants (one in the morning, one in the afternoon), hear a key note address and participate in discussion groups around major questions posed by the work. BOOKINGS : LEAParts can only offer 80 places on a first-come first-served basis for this Seminar. This is because each of the performances for infants can only accommodate a specified number of adults as observers. To book you place online click here.
