Jack Drum's Sonic Play Garden

Jack Drum Arts have been making two new music experiences for children to enjoy this year, along with their teachers. Thanks to generous funding from Arts Council England, Durham Co Council and the Princes Foundation for Children and the Arts.

700 children came along to see the show 'Feather in the Sky' as part of Phase 1 of the project and then went onto enjoy Phase 2, which  consists of interactive sonic play structures sited around Blackhill Park, Consett just waiting to be discovered, played and enjoyed.

In Jack Drum's Sonic Play Garden you will find the newly invented 'Drip-a-Phone' which uses water and amplification, an exploded piano with its inner workings exposed, old metal radiators turned into musical marble runs and lots of pentatonically tuned tubular bells and giant marimbas for communal music-making.  Added to that is the wonderful sight and sound of the Sue Finn's Gamelan at Play and the natural chirruping and chirping of the wild birds!

Jack Drum's Sonic Play Garden can be seen and experienced at the Stockton International Riverside Festival (28 July – 1 August).
