Very exciting to see Whitworth Art Gallery, Manchester Museum and Manchester Art Gallery bringing a focus to the key issue of how we support babies and very young children to develop their 'cultural capital' through their forthcoming conference Culturebaby.

Cultural Capital is a term being increasingly used to describe children's incredible potential to develop the skills, knowledge, attitudes and dispositions that deepen their cultural identities. It is to do with harnessing their creative capacities as well, but it is more than this. Its about how well we can help them to explore, find out and celebrate who they are within their own home cultures as well as within our society - to become the proud owners of their own cultural 'assets'.

Culturebaby will provide an ideal opportunity to discuss how the arts and cultural sector can help children on this journey, both in terms of the provision they make available for children's enquiry and exploration within their own cultural programmes, and in terms of how they partner with early years settings to support their work in settings with families.

Have a look at the Culturebaby programme here and add your views to the blog - its going to be much more than just a conference.

Not to be confused with the other Culturebaby which is also fab and provides a network for parents to enjoy cultural activities with their beautiful babes in London.
